Becci Wallace digs deep into the songwriting process of her guests, drawn from Scotland’s vibrant music scene.

In this episode Becci talks to Jo D’arc about Reflecting, Adapting and Experimenting.

Jo D’arc is a popular musician, producer/DJ, artist and writer currently based in Glasgow where she is also a passionate community worker and activist. She has performed across the world in various artistic guises while remaining rooted in her Scottish home.

Jo sings and plays bass guitar in alternative art-punk band The Twistettes. The band have toured across the UK and East Asia making an almighty noise wherever they go. The latest musical incarnation for Jo is experimental electronica project Minerva Wakes which sits somewhere between lush trip-hop and gritty dubstep. The full multi-arts project was released in March 2021 and includes an album, book and art collection. Jo also plays bass guitar in social commentary fuel dystopian gutter rock act Girobabies who are known for poignant lyrics and frenzied live performances. Notable gigs for Girobabies include a sold-out headline set at Glasgow Barrowlands.

As a writer, Jo’s words have mainly been expressed in song but more recent she has begun releasing her words to the world without the addition of musical accompaniment. The first venture in this was the publishing of her pamphlet ‘Minerva and the Whir’ and debut spoken word performances that followed in 2021. Currently she is working on a new pamphlet to be published in 2022 as well as beginning the process of making ‘Minerva and the Whir’ into a script with help from the Tron Theatre in Glasgow.
